Corvette Chief Engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov factory-built extra-high-performance specials, which includes the original 1963 Z06, the 1969 ZL1 aluminum block L88, the 1970-72 ZR1 Special purpose LT1, and the 12 ZR2 special purpose Corvettes. Rarer than even the vaunted L88, the ZR2 was a one-year only production package of only 12 units. At the heart of the ZR2 concept was the outstanding LS6 engine whose understated factory rating of 425 hp, the result of a heavy duty 4-bolt bottom end, forged crank, rods and pistons. The aluminum head LS6 was joined on the ZR2 roster by transistorized ignition, a high-capacity aluminum radiator, a Muncie M22 rock crusher close ratio 4-speed, heavy-duty power brakes, and special springs, shock absorbers, radio delete, 4.11 posi rear end, and heavy duty front and rear sway bars. It is equipped today as it was when delivered to Golden Mile Chev Olds, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. They sold it to the original owner Barry Needler as documented by the original warranty book, and GM of Canada build sheet. This ZR2 was the recipient of a work of art body-off nut and bolt restoration by one of the most respected restoration shops in the collector car hobby, Kevin Mackay's Corvette Repair of Valley Stream, NY, who displayed this car at the NCRS National Convention and Carlisle's Chip's Choice "Best of the Big Blocks" as the famous sideways Corvette.
