Introduced in 1991, Benchmark certification is Bloomington Gold’s most rigorous judging category. To achieve Bloomington Gold Benchmark status, an unrestored Corvette must attain Gold certification and excel in all four categories of Survivor judging the same weekend. Benchmark certification is for very rare, select Corvettes that represent the ultimate in factory originality and condition. Benchmark Corvettes are the ideal research tool for anyone performing a factory-correct restoration or trying to learn about cars of that vintage and type… hence the name, Benchmark. If originality is of paramount value in the world of collector Corvettes, this 1967 L71 427/435 HP 4-speed convertible handily qualifies as a potential crown jewel in any collection. In addition to being a multiple Bloomington Gold and NCRS award winner, this is the only known Tuxedo Black-on-black 1967 435 HP convertible to earn both Bloomington Gold Benchmark and NCRS Top Flight honors. This car’s indelible originality even extends to items normally replaced as part of the regular maintenance, including original dated F41 shock absorbers, drive belts, hoses, and spark plug wires. At Bloomington Gold 2003, Chris Piscitello (owner #7 for 15 years) reunited the Corvette with original owners Bob and Connie Olderog for the first time in 30 years. David Kolovat was also on hand to meet the Olderogs and thank Bob personally for originally ordering this marvelous piece of Corvette history. The gathering was also treated to watching the car receive Best Photo Album, Survivor and Gold awards, culminating in Benchmark certification – America’s most prestigious Corvette award – making it the only black-on-black 435 HP convertible to win all four.
